Service overview

What is involved in emergency roofing

An emergency roof problem is usually one of a handful of things: a big gust has ripped tiles or slates off, a chimney pot has come loose, water is pouring in somewhere it never has before, or a tree branch has come down on the roof. Whatever it is, the first job is stopping more water getting in while we work out the proper fix.

When you call us with an emergency, we'll ask what's happened, whether it's actively letting water in, and whether anything looks unsafe from the ground, like a loose chimney stack or debris hanging over a path. That helps us prioritise and decide what we need to bring with us.

On site, our first move is often to make the roof watertight with a temporary cover, tarpaulin or felt, secured properly so it survives more bad weather rather than blowing off itself. This buys time to plan a permanent repair without the household getting flooded out in the meantime.

Storm damage across Coventry, Solihull, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Rugby, Nuneaton and Kenilworth tends to hit the same weak points: loose ridge tiles, older flashing, and roofs that were already due some maintenance. If your roof was fine last winter but has failed now, age and general wear are usually part of the story.

Once the roof is safe and dry, we'll go through what caused the damage and what a permanent repair involves, with a free written quote so you can decide how to proceed, whether that's through your home insurance or paying for the work directly.

We only class something as a genuine emergency if it's actively causing damage or is unsafe, active leaks, storm damage, or loose materials at risk of falling. For anything less urgent we'll still get you booked in quickly, just through our normal repair scheduling rather than jumping the queue.

Common problems

Problems we put right

The faults we see most often when homeowners ask us about emergency roofing.

Wind stripped tiles or slates

Strong gusts can lift and remove multiple tiles or slates in one go, especially on exposed gable ends and ridgelines. Left uncovered, the exposed felt or membrane underneath won't hold up long in more rain.

Loose or leaning chimney stacks

Old mortar and flaunching around a chimney can fail suddenly, leaving pots or brickwork loose or leaning. This is a safety issue as well as a leak risk, and we'll make it safe as a priority.

Storm damaged flashing

Wind can peel lead or flexible flashing away from chimneys, walls and dormers in one movement, opening a direct route for water. It often looks worse than it is, but needs securing quickly.

Fallen branches and debris damage

Trees close to the roofline can drop branches in high winds, cracking tiles, denting flat roof coverings or damaging guttering. We check the wider area, not just the obvious impact point.

Our process

How we work, step by step

  1. 1

You call us about the emergency

Tell us what's happened and whether water is actively coming in or anything looks unsafe. We'll talk you through what to expect and arrange to get out to you.

  2. 2

    We assess and make safe

On arrival we check the roof, identify the damage, and make the area safe first, whether that's securing loose materials or covering an exposed section.

  3. 3

    Temporary weatherproofing if needed

If a full repair can't be done immediately, we fit a secure temporary cover to keep the property dry until the permanent fix is carried out.

  4. 4

    Permanent repair quoted and booked

We give you a free written quote for the lasting repair and book it in, so the temporary fix doesn't become a long term one.
