Whether it's a single cracked tile after a storm or a full re-roof on a tired covering, tiled roofs are straightforward to work with as long as they're laid and fixed correctly.

Interlocking concrete tiles are the standard choice on most modern housing, fitted quickly and giving good weather protection at a reasonable cost. Plain tiles, smaller and laid in double courses, are more common on older or higher status properties and take longer to lay because of the extra courses and nailing involved, but give a traditional finish that suits period houses well.

Clay tiles are used where character matters, often on older properties in Kenilworth or Leamington Spa where a concrete tile would look out of place. They cost more than concrete but hold their colour better over time and don't fade in the same way, which is why they're often specified on conservation area properties.

Verges, the sloped edges of the roof, and ridges, the horizontal cap along the top, are common weak points on tiled roofs. We fit dry verge and dry ridge systems on many jobs now, which use mechanical clips instead of relying purely on mortar, giving a more weather resistant finish that's less likely to crack and let water in over time.

Traditional mortar bedding is still used where it suits the property or where a homeowner wants to match existing detailing, and we're happy to work either way depending on what the roof needs. Cracked or missing mortar at the ridge is one of the most common reasons for water finding its way into a loft space.

Cracked, slipped or missing tiles usually come from age, storm damage or foot traffic on the roof, and we can replace individual tiles without disturbing the rest of the covering in most cases. Where damage is spread across large areas of the roof, a full re-roof often works out more sensible than ongoing patch repairs.
