Fascias and Soffits
Fascias and Soffits
Fascias and soffits protect the roof edge and support the guttering. We replace and repair them across Coventry, Solihull and Rugby.
Service overview
What is involved in fascias and soffits
Fascias are the boards fixed to the ends of the rafters around the roof edge, and soffits are the boards underneath that close off the gap between the fascia and the wall. Together they protect the roof timbers from weather, support the guttering, and give the roofline a finished look. When they rot or come loose, water and pests both find it easier to get into the roof space.
We fit UPVC fascias and soffits on most jobs because they do not need painting or maintenance the way timber does, and they hold their shape well over the years. Colours are available to match or update the property, and profiles can be matched to what is already there or changed if a homeowner wants a different look on a full replacement.
There are two main routes for a job like this: capping over the existing timber with UPVC trim, or stripping the old boards out completely and fitting new ones. Capping is quicker and cheaper where the timber underneath is still structurally sound, but it is only a sensible option if that timber genuinely has some life left in it. If it is soft or rotten, capping just hides the problem rather than fixing it.
Ventilation is worth thinking about at the same time as any fascia or soffit work, since soffits are often where roof void ventilation is built in through vented strips or circular vents. Poor ventilation in a roof space can lead to condensation problems over time, so we check whether the existing setup is doing its job or whether upgrading to ventilated soffits would help.
Bargeboards on gable ends get the same wear as fascias and are replaced or capped using the same approach, matched to the rest of the roofline so the finish looks consistent all the way round the property.
Because guttering is fixed directly to the fascia, any fascia replacement usually means removing and refitting the gutter as part of the same job. We take the opportunity to check the guttering itself and its falls while it is off, rather than just putting a worn system back up onto new boards.
Access for fascia and soffit work is generally from a tower or scaffolding depending on the height and layout of the property, and we include this in the written quote. We carry out fascia and soffit work across Coventry, Solihull, Warwick, Leamington Spa and Nuneaton, with guarantee terms confirmed in writing alongside every quote.

Common problems
Problems we put right
The faults we see most often when homeowners ask us about fascias and soffits.
Rotten timber fascias
Old timber fascias left unpainted or damp for too long eventually soften and rot, especially at joints. Once this happens, capping over them is not a lasting fix and replacement is needed.
Sagging soffits
Soffit boards can drop or come away from their fixings if they have taken on water, often letting birds or wasps get into the roof void through the gap.
Poor ventilation
Soffits without proper vents can trap moist air in the roof space, leading to condensation on the underside of the roof deck over time.
Cracked or faded UPVC
Older UPVC fascias can crack or discolour after many years in the sun. While UPVC needs little maintenance, it is not immune to ageing and eventual replacement.
Our process
How we work, step by step
- 1
Inspect the roofline
We check the condition of the existing fascias, soffits and bargeboards to see whether capping or full replacement is the right approach.
- 2
Written quote
You get a clear price covering materials, whether ventilated soffits are recommended, and any guttering work needed alongside it.
- 3
Remove or cap
Depending on timber condition, we either strip out old boards or cap over sound timber with new UPVC trim.
- 4
Refit guttering
Guttering is refitted onto the new boards at the correct falls, with brackets properly spaced and secured.
Why choose us
Benefits of choosing The Roofing Lads
Low maintenance finish
UPVC fascias and soffits do not need painting and hold their colour well over many years outdoors.
Ventilation improved
Vented soffit options help roof spaces breathe properly, reducing the risk of condensation building up.
Matched to the property
Profiles and colours can be matched to existing brickwork and windows, or updated as part of a wider refresh.
Guttering checked at the same time
Removing fascias gives us a chance to check gutter condition and falls before refitting, catching problems early.
Fascias and soffits do a quiet but important job protecting the roof edge and roof timbers from the weather. Left to rot, they let water and pests into places that are far more expensive to put right, so it is worth dealing with problems as soon as they appear.
If your fascias or soffits are rotten, sagging or just tired looking, get in touch for a free written quote. We cover Coventry, Solihull, Warwick, Rugby, Nuneaton and Kenilworth, with all guarantee terms confirmed in writing.
