Ridge Tiles, Dry Ridge and Dry Verge Systems

Ridge tiles sit along the very top of the roof, bedded traditionally in sand and cement mortar, and it's one of the first things to fail as a roof ages. Mortar bedding shrinks, cracks and eventually crumbles, letting ridge tiles rock loose in wind, which is a common reason we get called out across Coventry and Rugby after a stormy night.

For a repair, we rake out the failed mortar, clean the ridge tiles and rebed them properly, checking each one sits securely before moving to the next. This works well if the roof isn't due other work, but mortar bedding will eventually need doing again in years to come, since it's the nature of the material.

A dry ridge system replaces that mortar with a mechanical fixing, a union clip and dry fix strip that clamps each ridge tile in place without relying on cement at all. It doesn't crack or crumble the way mortar does, and many come with a ventilated design that helps loft airflow, useful if condensation has been an issue.

Dry verge systems do the same job along the gable end, replacing mortar bedded verge tiles with a fitted plastic or GRP unit that clips the tiles in place. Verges take a lot of wind loading on exposed gables, and once mortar there fails, tiles along the edge can lift, so converting to a dry system is often a sensible long term fix.

We fit both systems as standalone jobs or alongside other roof work, and match the colour and profile to suit the property, which matters on the more traditional homes around Warwick and Kenilworth where a mismatched black plastic verge would stand out.
